Norway, the lights of the Lofoten Islands

Some places are best discovered slowly…

In late January 2022, I set off on a fifteen-day road trip in Norway, through the Lofoten Islands, accompanied by my daughter Tania. Having worked as a guide for several months in this archipelago within the Arctic Circle, she proved to be an invaluable guide, helping me to discover these strikingly beautiful landscapes.

We arrived just as the sun was gradually reappearing after the long weeks of winter night. Each morning, its warm light brushed across the landscape, slowly awakening a land still slumbering in winter.

Over the course of those few days, I sought to capture those fleeting moments when shadows stretch out long across the snow, allowing the contours of the landscape to take Shape in time to the rhythm of the light. Each day reveals a natural world that is gradually regaining its textures and colours—of an almost unreal softness—after a long slumber.

Here, everything seems to be in motion; clouds glide over the peaks or rise up like vertical sculptures, the icy waters break, and the snow catches the low-angled rays of a sun still low in the sky. Between sea and mountains, between shadow and light, nature creates a spectacle in which every moment seems unique.

Through this collection, I wanted to share these suspended moments from an immersion in the heart of the Lofoten Islands, where the light gradually returns to illuminate the landscapes, revealing all the wild beauty of the far north.

These photographs are an invitation to contemplation, escape and the discovery of these northern landscapes.
